Configure External Sharing In Office 365 SharePoint and OneDrive

In this blog post, I will show you how to enable and configure external sharing in Office 365 and SharePoint Online.

Office 365 SharePoint Online and OneDrive allow us to customise the way we let external users that are not part of the tenant to access files.

Both SharePoint and OneDrive allow us to limit and even block sharing with external users.

Get Started

To get started and configure external access to SharePoint and OneDrive login to the Office 365 admin portal using the link below:

https://admin.microsoft.com/

From the Office 365 portal, Admin Centres click on SharePoint.

From the SharePoint admin center click on Sharing.

By default, External sharing is allowed with anyone and any domain which is risky.

You can change the External sharing settings by adjusting the sliders to reduce the permissions level.

My recommendation is that you limit external sharing to specific domains by using the advanced settings for external sharing.

To limit external sharing with external partners use the following settings.

Tick the box next to “Limit external sharing by domain” and click on Add domains

In the Add domains screen, select “Allow only specific domains” and enter the domain names you wise to allow.
