Create a Certificate with Subject Alternative Names on Windows Server CA

In this article, I’ll show you how to create a new Server Certificate with a Subject Alternative Names which means that the Certificate will have multiple names (DNS names).

Create a SAN Certificate

Using a SAN certificate Is more secure than using a wildcard certificate which Includes all possible hostnames In the domain.

The process of creating a SAN certificate Involves using the Certificates MMC as you will see below.

From the MMC open the Certificates snap-in

On local computer -> All Tasks -> Request New Certificate…

Click next

Next again

Select Web Server or other certificate and click on More Information.

In the Certificate properties under Alternative name use the drop-down menu and select DNS

Select DNS

Enter the full DNS name of the Hostnames you need the certificate to have
