Question: How To Configure Dynamic Memory Hyper-V 2012

This article will show how to configure Dynamic Memory in Hyper-V 2012.

Microsoft have made many improvements to how dynamic memory works and I’ll show you how to configure it.

Please note before you start that in order for Dynamic Memory to work your O/S needs to have the right Service Pack and O/S level.

Windows 8 and Server 2012 support Dynamic Memory out of the box.

In the picture below it’s my server before I enabled dynamic memory, as you can see the server is set to use 6GB of RAM and Hyper-v assigned all of it from the host memory.

This is how the configuration looks like

After I installed SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 on the VM I made the changes below the RAM configuration.

And this is how the memory assigned looks like after, as you can see the VM is using 4GB less.
